The openXEdge has three LAN ports. At the factory each has a fixed purpose, so you can reach the device after delivery without any preparation.

The three ports

Eth1	Direct access — fixed address, reachable straight out of the box, for example with a directly connected laptop.	192.168.1.250/24
Eth2	Company network — DHCP client. The edge obtains its address from your network here.	DHCP

Without a DHCP server on the network Eth2 gets no address; the operator interface then shows the port as not assigned. The edge stays reachable through Eth1 and Eth3.

Reaching the edge for the first time

1. Connect a laptop to Eth1 and give it a fixed address in the same network, e.g. 192.168.1.10/24.
2. Open https://192.168.1.250:5443 in the browser. The certificate is issued by the device itself, so the browser warns on the first visit.
3. Sign in and adapt the addresses if needed.

The operator interface needs no internet access for this; the handbook is on the device as well.

Changing addresses

The factory addresses are only a starting point. Change them through the operator interface (see Configure the network), not through the operating system itself: the operator interface checks a new setting before it applies it.
